Green space commands much of the real estate here, with York Cemetery marking the area’s northern boundary, and Earl Bales Park and the Don Valley Golf Course slicing through its middle section. The area south of the park in Armour Heights is a pocket of well-maintained million-dollar stone, stucco or brick homes, connected to the north via a footpath. Just watch out for plastic-wrapped turd bombs: the trail is popular with professional dog walkers (who apparently don’t clean up after their canine clients) and has a ski run in the winter. The historic Lansing community, where the Sheppard family settled in 1798, has seen an influx of families in more recent years, many of them moving into new condos, monster homes and townhouses.

There are plenty of outdoor activities easily available to residents of Lansing-Westgate; despite being in a central location to the north of Hwy. 401 and bordered by Yonge and Bathurst streets, the area is buffered to the north by York Cemetery and contains the expanse of Earl Bales Park.
This park is home to the North York Ski & Snowboard Centre, an off-leash dog area, playground, picnic sites and fire pits.
North York Civic Centre is located in the north-east corner of this neighbourhood, on Yonge Street north of Sheppard Avenue. The municipal building remained open following the city of Toronto amalgamation and still offers many services to residents. It’s also the meeting place of North York Community Council, which deals with local issues within the former municipality of North York.
The civic centre is by Mel Lastman Square, which features 20,000 square feet of open space, a garden court, an outdoor amphitheatre, fountains and a reflecting pool. Special events that showcase music, art, dancing, theatre, food, and sports are held there along with cultural festivals, concerts, fundraisers, art displays, and more. In winter, the pond is frozen to become an outdoor ice rink.
Schools in the neighbourhood include Cameron Public School and Summit Heights Public School.
The West Lansing Homeowners Association (WLHA) is a residents’ organization comprised of homeowners in the neighbourhood: north of Hwy. 401, west of Yonge Street and south of Sheppard Avenue.
